Science communication Updates from DBT

For the celebration of 9 Years of Achievement by Department of Biotechnology, a comprehensive media plan has been approved by Hon’ble Minster of State (IC), Ministry of Science and Technology. As a part of the media plan, the following activities are being undertaken:

  • Print: Booklets, Posters, Coffee Table Book
  • Electronic Media: TV Interviews
  • Digital Media: Online Newsletters, Short Films, Blogs
  • Social Media: YouTube, Twitter, Facebook, Linkedin (to be activated)
  • Exhibitions and Outreach:
  • Exhibition with side events comprising Lectures Series, Science Exhibitions, Popular lectures, visit of school college students to DBT-AIs, Videos of Science Stories, Radio program by each Director of DBT-AI on achievements of the institution to show case benefits given to society.

  • Product Launch Events: Launch of products developed through DBT/BIRAC support.

 

Some of the key actions taken are as follows:

  • 14 DBT Autonomous Institutions, ICGEB, RCB and PSU BIRAC are a part of the media plan and directions have been sent to convene thematic lectures and along with open days for student communication for showcasing the success stories.
  • DBT is tweeting on a regular basis from our Social media handle. Starting from 1st April 2023 till date 155 tweets have been posted. Furthermore, in the recent past we have started posting science blogs through our Facebook page. Linkedin account of DBT would be activated soon for maximum outreach.
  • Success stories in the form of infographics are posted in the web slider section of DBT web site on a regular basis.
  • An exhibition showcasing the achievement of DBT and its institutes would convened in the sidelines of Global BioIndia scheduled from 4th to 6th December 2023.

  • Dr. Jitendra Singh Union Minister (IC), Ministry of Science and Technology announced development of a novel Indian blood bag technology by scientists at the Institute for Stem Cell Science and Regenerative Medicine (DBT-inStem), an autonomous institute of the Department of Biotechnology.   • Dr. Jitendra Singh, Union Minister (IC), Ministry of Science and Technology, presided over the launching of “Omicron-specific mRNA-based Booster vaccine developed using the indigenous platform technology” on 20th June 2023. (pib.gov.in/PressReleseDetailm.aspx?PRID=1933586)
  • To mark the ‘World Bioproduct Day’ , Dr Jitendra Singh also launched the DBT social media campaign #IChooseLiFE to promote Biomanufacturing and making use of bioproducts On 8th July 2023 (pib.gov.in/PressReleaseIframePage.aspx?PRID=1938148)
  • Dr. Jitendra Singh, Union Minister (IC), Ministry of Science and Technology, launched India’s first Indigenously developed, Affordable, lightweight, Ultrafast, High Field (1.5 Tesla), Next Generation Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) Scanner in New Delhi on 1st August 2023.   • Dr. Jitendra Singh, Union Minister (IC), Ministry of Science and Technology presided over the signing up of the ‘Implementation Arrangement’ between the Department of Biotechnology (DBT) and the United States-National Science Foundation (US-NSF) on 22nd August 2023.
