DBT-Postgraduate Teaching (PG) Programmes (M.Sc./ M.Tech./ M.V.Sc)

The Post Graduate Programmes in Biotechnology are being implemented by DBT since the year 1985. The aim is to ensure a high quality standard of teaching and providing state of the art infrastructure facilities to universities and institutions located in various parts of country and promote an ecosystem of trained manpower in the country required for industrial and academic activities. A total of 70 PG courses were selected during 15th Finance Commission for support in areas of general Biotechnology, allied areas of Biotechnology including Medical, Marine, Computational Biology, Bioprocess Technology, Bioresource’s Biotechnology Pharmaceutical Biotechnology and Molecular and Human Genetics. The location of these institutions is depicted in Map.
Selection of students to these courses is made through the Graduate Aptitude Test-Biotechnology (GAT-B), a computer based national entrance examination conducted annually through national Testing Agency and coordinated by Department of Biotechnology and Regional Centre for Biotechnology, Faridabad. All selected candidates are paid studentships under DBT support. In-house dissertation/Thesis has been made mandatory for all the participating institutions.

Selection of students

To provide All–India representation, maintain uniformity and ensure selection of quality students, admission is done through the Graduate Aptitude Test-Biotechnology (GAT-B), a computer based national entrance examination conducted annually through national Testing Agency and coordinated by Department of Biotechnology and Regional Centre for Biotechnology, Faridabad. The selection is very stringent and all admitted students are paid studentship.

DBT-Model Course Curriculum:

Model course curricula have been developed by Department of Biotechnology through a consultative process to maintain uniformity and ensure quality education under DBT support. The curriculum revision exercise is undertaken periodically to incorporate the latest developments and to rationalize the disparities in theoretical and practical training. In order to match the course contents with the upcoming trends, model course curriculum for thirteen PG courses have been developed in 2017-18. Monitoring of Programme

To ensure uniform standard of teaching, these teaching programs are periodically reviewed by in-house advisory committees comprising of outside experts from teaching institutions and industries, annual meetings of course coordinators of all participating universities as well as DBT-Steering Committee on HRD.
